LOST/FOUND PET WEBSITES

**When describing your pet, leave out one or more identifying characteristics and ask the person who finds your pet to describe the pet to you.

Posting your lost pet on numerous websites can be dangerous. There are scam artists that surf these sites in partcular looking for an easy target. What easier target than a worried, grief stricken, missing pet, person?

  • Keep track of where you post your pet. Although you may post your phone number, there are times when people who read your post will reply with another post to the website and not call you. You will want to go back to the places you have posted your lost pet to see if anyone has replied there.

  • Keep a record of where and when you posted a Lost notice and have them removed when the pet is safely home.

Check the Austin American-Statesman Public Notices section, (Pull-down menu - Lost, Found) everyday! Even start looking the day your pet goes astray!

Check the Pets & Livestock section in the Classifieds for pets that are for sale! This happened to a lost pet person in Austin recently. The dog was sold and never recovered.

the Austin Animal Aware News at no_kill@hotmail.com [they can create a link to your jpg]

AustinRescue-owner@yahoogroups.com [must have a link to your jpg as do the 3 newslists below]

Check the TLAC online photos at http://malford.ci.austin.tx.us/tlac/found.cfm Your missing pet would be brought into TLAC as a Lost/Found animal. This should NOT be a substitute for going to TLAC and looking in person. Some pets do not get pictures and there are no pictures available for all the animals in the areas not accessible to the public. The breed identification on the available software is limited and may not be accurate.
