§ 3-3-92 DISPOSITION OF IMPOUNDED ANIMALS.
After the expiration of three calendar days, not including the first day, after any animal has been impounded and not reclaimed by its owner, any, in accordance with the provisions of this article, the Health Authority or his designee may dispose of such animal in any lawful manner including but not limited to adoption, sale or destruction of said animal. The animal may be disposed of prior to the expiration of such time if in the professional opinion of the veterinarian disposition is necessary to avoid the unnecessary suffering of a sick or injured animal. TLAC NU WEB SITE FEATURE:
There is a feature on the Town Lake Animal Center Petharbor site that you may wish to use, esp for people who have lost a pet. (Not that it replaces going to TLAC because the breed identification is not always accurate, but it is another tool that could be utilized) . The site says that TLAC will email you once a day when the breed you sign up for is at the center. You are emailed every day that the breed is there - which means if a breed identification changes on an animal who has been there a few days - as it sometimes does - you will be notified. It is suggested that you sign up for a few of the breeds that are similar to what you are looking for.

Owner surrenders become the property of the City of Austin immediately. We, [TLAC], usually hold them for 24 hours before disposition. However, they can be euthanized immediately depending on behavior, medical, etc. [per TLAC rescue coordinator]
